Why did you do this, James?
Microsoft-Free Fridays was a concept intiated by Dave Winer. Read the article for a full description of the idea, but what I got from it was mainly this: The web has become too dependent on Internet Explorer as a browser. As much as I would love to personally delete every copy of Netscape 4 out there, it is obvious to me that a proprietary Microsoft internet would be a very bad thing. Internet Explorer quietly smooths over the layman's errors and invalid markup. Because of this, thousands of people make their personal homepages everyday and don't even realize that they may look/act differently in other browsers. (Huh? What other browsers?) Dependence on Internet Explorer lays way for ridiculous marketing ideas like Microsoft's "Smart Tags" which border on the edge of web vandalism and deceptive web content subversion. Don't get me started!
Do yourself (and the web) a favor. Download another browser like Mozilla, Netscape 7, or Opera.
