Jessie and I were walking the dogs this morning and noticed the mailman talking on the phone. He went over to a lawnmower in someone's yard and leaned over what we then realized was a man. The man was probably in his seventies and had collapsed while mowing.
I gave Jessie the leash and ran over to help. The mailman started giving CPR while I talked to the 911 operator.
About that time, the man's wife rolled her wheelchair onto the front porch. She was far enough away that she couldn't see what was going on and kept asking me, "Is he alright? Is he breathing?" I just ignored her because I couldn't bring myself to tell her that her husband's face was purple and there was no pulse...
The paramedics arrived and took over. They worked on him for a good half hour before I left. A few minutes later I heard them drive away with the sirens on. I think that's a good sign. They don't use the sirens if he's pronounced DOA.
I don't know if he's ok but I'll definately appreciate our mailman more. I hope the man's wife is alright. I had some basic CPR training from the Red Cross when I was in high school, but I've forgotten most of it. I think I'll go back.

What's up with the 5k?
Does anybody know what's up with The 5k Competition? No, that's not a foot race, it's a web competition to see what developers can do in under 5 kilobytes of file size. I entered last year and had a lot of fun doing it. I wouldn't mind entering again this year but it was supposed to be open all this month and still there's no word. They even say they'll send out an email on the announcement list but there is no way to submit your email. I'm getting antsy... This geek doesn't wait well.

I never thought this day would come.
Oh.... I can't believe it. I'm actually jealous of a Backstreet Boy. It just goes to show that with enough money, you can do pretty much anything you want to.

Be immortalized. Have your likeness traded by strangers.

During the South by Southwest Interactive festival, I picked up a small sample pack of what appeared to be some kind of trading cards called PeopleCards. They were packaged almost the same as a normal pack of baseball cards but upon closer inspection I noticed the catch phrase, "7 Real People, 1 Real Artcard, 0 Celebrities." I decided to check out the website and noticed that you can register to become one of the people on the PeopleCards. Cool.
Today I signed up for the second edition of PeopleCards. I went through the forms entering my personal information and interests. You can enter things like favorite movies and food, hobbies, occupation, etc. Now I'm to the point where I have to upload a photo. I've narrowed it down to two photos but I need some feedback on which you think is best. Both of them are in an outdoor setting - I thought it would be more flattering and would give the illusion that I don't sit in front of my computer all day. (Which I do most everyday.)
The first photo (43k) is of me at Hamilton Pool just outside Austin, Texas. The second photo (61k) was taken in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Which do you like better? Please comment.

Patrick Fox sent me this link for a bandwidth test. Test how fast your connection to the internet is. My cable modem came in at 3.1 megabits per second. Smokin'! They said, "compared to all connection types worldwide, yours is fantastic"... I guess that since I'm a web professional, that's to be expected. I've been spoiled on broadband for some time now and I couldn't see myself ever going back. The drawback is that sometimes I forget most everyone still has modems.
I was actually surprised to see how much faster Cable averaged over DSL. I was also surprised to see that Central America has an incredibly fast average speed.
