After posting that digital?confusion would be performing with the audio/visual artist, Hexstatic, several people noted to me that they didn't know who Hexstatic was... Well... Let me show you a Hexstatic video project entitled "Deadly Media" (2.4Mb)... It's about three minutes long and you'll need the free QuickTime player to view it. If you don't watch the whole thing you're missing out.
When I mentioned to my parents that I was going to be mixing and displaying video in an art museum, my mother said something like, "Does that count as performance art?" Only she said it as though she thought I would be running around in circles with my finger up my nose and naked.

Scott Andew may be my new knight in shining armor. He's put up a wonderful argument for web standards (like xhtml and css) without all the bellyaching reasons that turn most stubborn old-school developers off to the idea.
I just heard this week that digital?confusion is getting a chance to perform at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. It's in April and the last I heard was that we'll be performing with DJ Spooky and opening up for Hexstatic, an audio/visual artist on the NinjaTune label. I'm glowing.

It seems like the people at the MIT New Media Lab are always putting out amazing work. Virtual Constructs in Real Space is no exception. Simon Greenwold has put together a 3D modeler than works in real time and with real space relative to the camera position of live video. I'm in awe.

There are only three themes that come with Windows XP. In order to get more themes and a few small games, Microsoft wants you to shell out forty more bucks for XP Plus! Sounds like another ripoff. If you only want extra themes, try StyleXP from TGTsoft, currently a free beta. It even came with a Mac OSX theme that I'm using now.
Holy Crap! Scott Andrew Lepera laid out his site with CSS only (no tables) and somehow managed to get it working in Netscape 4 too. While some of you may not realize the ingenuity of this project, let me assure you it's more than difficult to get sites looking pretty in Netscape 4 without the use of tables.

It would appear that President Bush hired a designer to layout his new budget plan. The article mentions you can view it online but it doesn't say where. It's here.

I despise Spam Servers
Today I got this piece of junk:
National ISP Co. is a business class bulk email friendly ISP. We are dedicated to supporting your company with your email advertising program. Have the "Peace of Mind", knowing that you will not be shut down by your present ISP. Our website address is WWW.NATIONAL-ISP.ORG Please call our office for more information and prices.
Phone: 336.841.5156 and ask for Paul or Len. Ask about our referral program. If you wish to be removed from our mailing list please write "remove" on the subject line and return to us.
Now why on earth would I want to respond to this and verify my email address. "Bulk Email Friendly ISP" - what a crock. Do I sound bitter? Maybe I am. Maybe I'm sick of getting junk mail. At least with paper junk mail I get the satisfaction of knowing that I'm throwing away something that cost the marketer a little bit of money.

I've recently been trying out some new CSS2 stuff for paged media. It was frustrating at first because browsers don't support a lot of it yet. I wasn't even sure if I was doing it right until it worked in Opera 6. In order to have a user agent automatically select a print orientation, use this:
<style type="text/css" media="print">
@page {size:landscape;}
</style>
Better yet, you can set up all your page styles in your print stylesheet, then specify the page type with a class.
@page legal {size: 8.5in 14 in;}
body.foo {page:legal;}
Hopefully, it will implemented in Mozilla and Internet Explorer sometime soon.
I'm so glamorous
I saw Janeane Garafalo yesterday. She walked past my car window while I was parallel parking. Excluding celebrities I've seen at shows, this brings my giant list up to two. (I got Evander Holyfield's autograph in the Houston Airport when I was a kid.) With all these Hollywood connections, I'll be a shoe-in for a movie spot. :p
